Rather than contracting an internet service provider and a phone company separately, you can use the same ISP to meet all your communication needs.
How It Works
You are normally encouraged to leave the more complex aspects of VoIP to us. You don’t require much in the way of technical knowledge to use VoIP Phone systems in your business. That being said, the basics of VoIP are not that hard to understand.
When you make a phone call using VoIP, your system will take your audio signals, turn them into digital code, transmit it over your internet connection, deliver it to the phone system of your target and then convert it back to audio signals.
Everything starts with your phone. Then you transition to the router, which takes you to the cloud from where your VoIP Service Provider uses the IP Network to access the devices you want to reach. You can choose to run your VoIP communication system over a Business LAN.
But some companies will install a PBX on their premises so that they can use SIP trunking. This allows you to restrict your communication to a dedicated line, leaving your Business LAN to cater to your company’s other internet needs.
To understand the minutiae of VoIP and its workings, you must also understand terms like Session Initiation Protocol, Direct Inward Dialing, Analogue Terminal Adapter, and Latency, to mention but a few. But if you just want to integrate the technology into your business, a detailed understanding of VoIP won’t do you any good.
You just need to appreciate the fact that VoIP will enable you to make calls with any device from any location. You don’t even have to incur the costs associated with long-distance calls.
This is where some of the confusion tends to arise. When people hear words like ‘VoIP’ and ‘IP Phone’, they start to presume that they must acclimate to an entirely new method of making phone calls. But that isn’t true. A VoIP phone looks no different from an ordinary phone.
It has buttons that you must press to make a call. The keypad has the same numbers and letters. Of course, with VoIP phones, you will notice additional buttons such as ‘Transfer’, ‘Voicemail’, and ‘Conference’. A VoIP phone will also enable you to choose the phone calls you want to pick. The options include held calls, incoming calls, and current calls.
As you can see, VoIP phones are not only familiar in design but they are easy to use. Most of the buttons are clearly labelled. Anyone that has experience using a normal phone around the office cannot fail to use a VoIP Phone.
